RESEARCH NOTE / 001 · FOOD MANUFACTURING
Product data.
After approval.
What operational work remains between an approved internal product specification and external retailer or customer systems?
The handoff
we are studying.
Approval inside an ERP, PLM or specification system may be followed by mapping, entry, upload and checking in customer systems. We are investigating where that still happens, and where existing tools have removed it.
This is a hypothesis to test. We have not established that every manufacturer has this problem or that automation is the right answer.
- 01
Approved internal data
The research starts after internal product or specification approval.
- 02
Customer requirements
Map the approved information into the recipient’s fields, formats and rules.
- 03
External submission and checks
Enter or upload the information, then check completeness and validation results.
- 04
Queries and resubmission
Resolve rejected entries and customer questions. Separate routine fixes from expert judgement.
What we want to measure.
- Systems
- External portals maintained per team
- Volume
- Updates in a typical month
- Human time
- Minutes per update after internal approval
- Rework
- Corrections, rejections and resubmissions
- Existing tools
- Direct publishing, exports and current automation
- Judgement
- Exceptions that still need an expert
We do not treat the whole specifications role as automatable. Authoring, food safety decisions and regulatory sign-off are outside this initial bottleneck.
A process description
is enough to begin.
Approximate ranges and a non-confidential explanation are useful. Participation is voluntary; identifying details will not be published without permission.
This is independent commercial opportunity research. Findings may inform a future product; there is no product purchase being requested now.
- No passwords or retailer credentials
- No confidential specifications for initial research
- No changes to production systems during discovery
- No software purchase required to take part
Mostly automated?
We want to understand that too.
A finding that disproves the hypothesis is useful evidence.
